DWTS Instant Dancing!?

Tonight on DWTS, the stars are faced with not only performing two dances, but one of them they will not know what their music is until they take the stage.  Now that is just crazy!  But I can't wait to see how they do. "Instant Dance" is what it is called, and Len says it is more like a Ballroom style of competition.  Bruno says they have less than an hour before going on the stage.  Only five remain and this is the true test of their abilities.

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer 1-800-868-3403

Kyle and Lacey are dancing the Viennese Waltz.  Tonight Lacey is really after Kyle for his foot work. I mean she is yelling at him and being a drill Sergeant. The first dance sets the tone.  And what a tone they have set! Kyle's hard work pays off.  He was very focused, and their dance was beautiful.  Len commended him for his posture, leads and finished with, "Last week you were a little bud and this week, a gorgeous orchid."  Bruno told him he was totally charmed by him saying he was now a sophisticated young man.  And despite being repeatedly criticized by them(the judges) he came back each week improved.  "That is the way to win it!"
Carrie Ann exclaims her crush on Kyle is back! Well, she has been behaving so I guess I will allow it.  She told him the elegance was back, and it was like they were dancing on clouds. It really was!

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough
1-800-868-3411

Jen and Derek  are dancing the Quick step. Jennifer has a tearing going on with her knee and her doctor doesn't directly say it, but he is definitely encouraging her to rethink her staying in the competition.  I feel her pain.  I do.  And I would not want to be faced with her decision.  After a visit and pep talk from her dad she decides she can go on.  She did a good job.  And if she was in pain, she didn't show it.  Bruno told them it was a vintage Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers classic.  Carrie Ann admitted that due to her(Jennifer's) injury she had a lower expectation for her, but said that the dance was beautiful.  "There was a tiny misstep, but it was gorgeous."  Len said that despite injuries and frustration, she faced the music and danced, and she did great!

Carrie Ann:  9
Len: 9
Bruno: 9

Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya
1-800-868-3408

Anna and Kurt  dance The Waltz and it is pretty.  Kurt is so charming and sweet.  It's what makes him enjoyable to watch.  Carrie Ann told him that he was like a Ken Doll for Ballroom.  She meant it in a good way, and went on to explain that she would want the Ken doll to dance like him.  She gave him props for his effort and determination.  Len said that for a big guy, he is graceful but still needs to work on the arms.  "Overall the dance was beautiful!"  Bruno said, "When you smile and are relaxing you light up the room!"  Then he told him to be sure and lift his chin.

Bristol and Mark are dancing the Argentine Tango. Bristol is missing her family and wanting to go home. Mark gives her a pep talk.  She goes home for a few days and feels recharged.  I wasn't real impressed with their Tango.  It was clean and smooth, but it didn't suck  me in.  Len said the lifts were good, the dance was clean but it lacked intesnity, (he get boos for this) "I'm telling the truth!"  You go Len!  I am with you!  Bruno says she was mean and moody, but that at times she loses the expression.  "You go in and out.  You've got to be a bad girl all the way through."
Carrie Ann begged to differ telling her it was the most intensity they have EVER seen from her. Then she told Bristol she was lacking energy in her legs.

Carrie Ann:  8
Len: 8
Bruno: 8

Brandy and Maks Chmerkovskiy
1-800-868-3406

Brandy and Maks are dancing the Waltz and she is stressing as usual.  "No one is safe." She says.  Wow!  They swept me away.  It was one of those dances where you can not take your eyes off them and they are the only people in the room.  Yeah it was good.  Bruno said  it was more than a dance that it  was an exquisite  interpretation of a dance.  "It was like a symphony!" Carrie Ann said she was spellbound that the dance was emotional and riveting.  "Watch your neck, and relax." she told her. Len said "If your nit picky which I am not(yeah right) I was overwhelmed by the whole performance."

Carrie Ann:  9
Len: 10
Bruno: 10

Kyle and Lacey are the first to do the "instant dance"--The Jive-- is their dance and the song is, "Good Golly Miss Molly."  They had about 20 minutes of rehearsal time with the music.  I am officially wowed by this boy.  That is no easy feet.  And he did fabulous!  Way to go Kyle.  Len said his energy was high and that other than the other two going crazy...  "It was wild and whacky, and I enjoyed it!"  He told him it needed a little more finesse. Bruno told him he danced like he was at the top of the leader board.  He went on to say that he looked like he had rehearsed it for months.  "I loved every second of it!"  And Carrie Ann said,  "That was by far the most fun I had ever had as a viewer."

Carrie Ann:  10
Len: 9
Bruno: 10

Jennifer and Derek are dancing the Rumba to "Waiting For A Girl Like You."  Did they say she had a knee injury?  Yeah that picture up there is from their Rumba.  I can't do that.  Their Rumba was...Wow...sexy sassy!  Bruno shooting up out of his chair in all his Brunosity exclaimed,  "What is going on tonight!? This challenge is bringing out the best in people!  This was just breath taking sensual and flawless." Carrie Ann told them they captured the moment.  Len said that what he loves about dancing is the varaition.  "That's what makes great dancing.  And that's what we've just seen!"

Carrie Ann:  10
Len: 10
Bruno: 10

Kurt and Anna's instant dance is the  Cha cha to the tune of "Hella Good"  Anna choreographs to counts and not lyrics and she says that Kurt doesn't work that way."  But he did!  He danced better than I have ever seen him dance.  He was on fire and having a total blast.  Carrie Ann started with how musicality was never his strong suit, but that tonight he did it and with a whole lot of charisma and sex appeal.  Len said he did extrememly well.  "Knowing the music is a safety net.  Not knowing makes you more focused on the dance." Bruno said, "You came out here, you let it lose and you had fun and you went for it. You did good!"

Scores:
Carrie Ann:  8
Len: 8
Bruno: 8
Total: 24/48

Bristol and Mark are dancing the Samba...they gave her such a hard dance and song..."Mas Que Nada" Not as strong as the others but for Bristol well done.  She lost her footing a couple of times.  Len said that of all the Latin dances the Samba is the most difficult. "You coped very well." Bruno told her she can shake it, but that sometimes she loses it.  Carrie Ann told her she was not musically connected.  "Your personality was there, but not on the beat."  She is right audience, no booing!

Scores:
Carrie Ann:  7
Len: 8
Bruno: 8
Total: 23/47

Brandy and Maks are dancing the cha cha to "Teenage Dream"  Brandy feels pretty good about the instant dance. She feels she has the musicality side of it down. Well, she may think she has it, but I did not see it.  Their dance was fun, but for her caliber it lacked...in musicality. Bruno said it was another fabulous performance to end a truly fantastic night.  Carrie Ann chastised both Brandy and Maks for the fact that she didn't dance for eight measures.  "Kurt danced more than you!"  Len told her that her Waltz was full of beauty and grace, the cha cha full of flare.  "You did quite well."  A debate between Maks and Carrie Ann went back and forth for a minute or two.  Sorry Maks, Carrie Ann is right.  It was the "instant dance" and Brandy should have been showcased more.

Scores:
Carrie Ann:  9
Len: 9
Bruno: 10
Total: 28/57

Couple going home:  Kurt and Anna.  I am very disappointed with this result.  I have been cheering for Bristol from the start, but it's time for the "teen advocate" to go home.  And that should have been tonight.  We will miss you Gene Kelly Kurt Warner!

Yes sounds like the wrong couple went home. That is why the end gets so hard.. they are often so close and you start to like them all. But I have hardly watched any of it and I would have wanted Bristol to go home this week too.

My mom had it down to Bristol or Kurt going home. She sees Jennifer, Brandy & Kyle the top 3. She sees Kyle #3 and a toss up for the first and second spot between Brandy & Jennifer. I agree with her.

the population in Alaska must be larger than we think cuz that's the only way Bristol could still be in the competition. Kurt was going home this week or next but I would have liked seeing that smile one more week : )

I think I'm kinda rooting for Kyle Massey at this point!

Great write up as always! It sounds like Bristol got mixed reviews, but I love the pic of them two, they look very into it.

I would love to learn how to dance the rumba!

I think at this stage of the dance show it is great to have them do this surprise dance episode. It really shows how far they've come with their dancing!

I know the Pro Dancers weren't loving the idea of the instant dances but I thought they were AWESOME!! I hope they do that in future seasons. Super fun.
I am still holding out for Jennifer and Derek. They did sooo great.
I keep looking at Jennifer Grey thinking "Crap that woman is older than me!" She looks fabulous and I haven't been able to do anything near the splits since I had my first child!! ha ha

I'm with you on this one. It's time for her to GO.

I didn't get to watch it Monday night or I would have voted. I'm voting next week. This is ridiculous.
