Too Soon

Last Friday before we left on our trip, I began the process for registering Ryan in preschool.  More specifically the Head Start Program through the state since (hopefully) we would qualify and he could prepare for school without me having to fork over extra cash.

The school called on Friday after we had left.  I was informed by one person that he was too old for the program and therefore did not qualify.  The other person wanted to verify his date of birth with me.  I called them both back first thing Monday morning and was not called back.  So I called the Elementary school to get the cut off date for Kindergarten.  He is well within it.  Scary to think for my October baby.  And she confirmed that yes indeed he was too old for the Head Start Program.  I was instructed to get him enrolled tomorrow. (Tuesday)

I am pretty sure he is ready.  He has been talking about it all day.  I even read a library book to him called "Kindergarten Rocks."  He seemed so small cuddled next to me.
It's really ME I am most worried about.

Here is Arkansas, you have to be 5 by August 1st in order to register for Kindergarten. Apparently, things are different in your neck of the woods.

He will do great and you will too! And you can always try again, we did it :)

Oh I'm sure the first day will be a trauma for you, but after that, he'll love it and you will too. A couple of hours a day to yourself will be great!

Oh no!!! I'm fearing kindergarten and my kiddos is not even 2. hahaha

I think seeing his excitement for school shoul make you happy and strong enough to get through this. I can imagine what it must be like for your "baby" to grow so fast. Like I said I'm dreading that day!

How old is he though? Here in Chicago I think for headstart you can be 3 or 4.

He'll be fine (and so will you). The first few days will probably be tough. Our cutoff here is that they need to be 5 by September 1st for kindergarten. It is still to early for us to decide whether Em is going since she makes the deadline by 3 days. I can't believe she is almost three already.

I still have a whole year before my youngest can go. Then you'll be seeing me do the happy dance!

You'll be okay. Really.

How exciting and crazy all at once. Good luck to both of you! ;)

I worried about the same thing! My little guy was old enough for K, but still such a timid little soul. He was fine though, but I was not. :(

I am sure he will be fine! It is always hardest on the moms. Or well... it was for me!

In my experience as a preschool teacher, but especially a mother, first days are usually more traumatizing for parents than for the kids.

My daughter's first day of preschool was in MY class and it was still difficult, even though I was with her all day - it was all I could to hold back tears!

You'll both be fine! I don't even remember what the cutoff is in KY.

One of my sons had an October birthday and he did great in kindergarten. it did take a year or two until his small muscle tasks were up to some of the January kids, but he ended up fine.
