Vampires

When I say Vampire what is the first thing you think of
 ....

Yeah I thought so.  But that is not even close.  Sorry Twi-hards, but work with me, K.

A long time ago, I am talking before any of us were even born an amazing horror story was written.  Come on...say with me now....

This story spawned a whole line of theories and movies.  The very first that comes to my mind is...Dracula played by Bela Lugosi.  I never have seen it, but I know it.

The first Dracula movie I personally remember seeing was Once Bitten with George Hamilton, and even at my then young age, I could see he oozed with a certain sex appeal.

Then came another...more geared towards the kids....you might recognize the CO-star...
Once Bitten was a new twist on the story of vampires.  This time SHE is a Countess.  And she needs VIRGIN blood.  Try finding that in a typical American teenage male.  See him front and center there.  Come on...you know who that is!  Jim Carrey can only mean one thing, hilarity.  It's corny, but tells a good and new story without a lot of  blood and gore.

Then we needed to get scared...again for the younger set....I loved this one....

Fright Night

A teenage kid obsessed with vampire movies is convinced his new and mysterious neighbor is a vampire.  With the help of his favorite horror movie host--think Vincent Price--he discovers the horrifying truth.  My favorite line in the movie is said by his weasel best friend, "Oh Brewster!  You're sooo cool!"

But what happens when you add...

Dracula
Plus....
Billy Idol
Well you will get the ORIGINAL teenage bad boys vampire movie!  That's what!
The Lost Boys!

I saw this one in the theaters.   A single mom moves her and her two sons to Santa Carla, the murder capitol of the world, where Michael, her eldest son encounters a band of "bad boys" and a mysterious girl...her up there.  The younger brother played by the late Corey Haim suspects his brother is turning into a "blood sucking vampire." and turns to the Frog Brothers, Edgar and Allen for help.  Now why didn't I ever catch those names until now??  I knew who Edgar Allen Poe was when this movie came out.  I digress.  I submit, the end all teenage version of Vampirism(it's a word) is and always will be:  The Lost Boys.  Interestingly enough, in a scene where the Frog Brother's kill the first vampire, who bleeds all over them, as they run out of the cave they are covered in sparkling blood.  Hmmmmmm....very interesting indeed.  V is for Vampire.

Today's post was brought to you by the letter V, the number 18 and by Jenny Matlock!

I'm actually a little peeved that Twilight is the first thing that pops in my head. I've never read it or seen it. I want Dracula back in my head!

I did love The Lost Boys!!!

Actually, the True Blood hottie was my first thought when I saw the title of your post on my blogroll, lol. Twilight is not my first thought on vampire movies. Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder is. :P

I'm surprised you didn't mention Interview with a Vampire. Classic. Obviously I am a vampire freak.

I'm about to give in and finally read the Twilight series. I need some kind of candy to read on vacation. Typically I hate all things vampire.

If you want to read a truly good book about Vampires, check out Elizabeth Kostova's "The Historian." One of my all-time favorites.

My mom likes to tell the story about when she was young. She was coming out of the movie theater and who did she see but Bela Lugosi walking down the street and this wasn't in Hollywood. I guess at that time they used to go to different city's to promote their movies. She must have told me about it 100 times lol.

Thanks for your comment on my blog today. I wanted to explain the two in two years comment. My oldest daughter left for BYU-I last summer, and she got married in April. So I've lost two kids in two years. Now I'm down to only five, and it seems so strange.
New follower here! I'll be back!
Vampires totally creep me out, but I hung in there! My skin is crawling............
Hm...not into vampire movies...ew.

Blessings & Aloha!
(trying to get to more "V" posts. My blog reading time is so limited!)

I hope you can hear my big sigh of relief here.

There were two vampire posts in a row and I totally hate being scared and/or grossed out!

L8R's was that adorable picture of her daughter and this one was just plain interesting and fun!

Thank you for not scaring me.

And thank you for linking up to Alphabe-Thursday each week.

Lourie, you are such a neat lady.

I always enjoy visiting here!

A+

This is funny. Just yesterday I finished reading a book that I have been hiding under my pillow. I bring it out and read it with a flashlight when everyone else is asleep. Can you guess which book I finished reading? Yes, it was Bram Stoker's original novel Dracula!

There are so many good V-words. 'Vampire' is a really good one.

Best wishes,
Anna

Oh yeah...my son hates vampires and loves Santa Cruz boardwalk...I freaked him when we were there and told him we had to leave before dark because the Lost Boys were coming...he had no idea who the Lost Boys were but when I told him...well, lets just say I may never have to go to the Boardwalk again!
