Can You Tell Me....?

Before I ask my weekly question, I want you all to take a deep breath and slowly exhale.  Aahhh. Now doesn't that feel good.  Okay.  Next, I want you to set aside all of your political views and opinions.  These are just men for now.

Remember, no opinions...no views....my question is this?  Can you tell me what religion they are?  How quickly can you do it?  I bet you all can name at least one.  Why is that?  Could it be that in nearly every single report one religion is mentioned, sometimes repeatedly?    To be honest, I had to do a little research and find out the religion on the others.

President Obama:  Christian (with a couple of churches named in Wiki)
Newt Gingrich:  Raised Southern Baptist and as an adult converted to Catholicism.
Rick Santorum:  Roman Catholic
Mitt Romney:  Latter-Day Saint

Of all these men, the only one whose religion shows up with in the second paragraph in wiki is of course Romney.  Now, I am not sure who writes these, or how Wiki works, but as for the others, their religions came way later.  In fact, buried deep down  at the bottom of the page.  Why?  Why is it so important to know that Romney is a Mormon?  And why is it so UNimportant that the others are some other religion?  What is the difference?  And tell me this...could you name their religions before you read this?

It's because mormon or LDS are "controversial." At least that's the reason I think...I actually knew what the others were because I do pay attn to that stuff.
Let's say this though...I'm much more comfortable with Romney being LDS and actually claiming it than I am with Obama's supposed "Christianity."

Oh very good point! And yes, I had no idea what the others were before your post.

But yes, Mormonism does tend to stand out more than the others, but we do like being a peculiar people right ;)

I wonder if it is the fact that really until Obama (or maybe just a shy earlier) they say all presidents kind of have the same religious beliefs. not that they are all the same church, but and I can't think of the right word.... anyway then Obama came and well, he says he's Christian but does anyone REALLY know what he is? And the LDS is a little bit different than what most all the other religions are only because they have their own book. Otherwise, they are still considered a part of Christianity or so I always thought. But I wonder if that's not why he's pointed out, if I'm even making any sense at all.

In my religion class in college though, we had to pick some other religion other than our own and they allowed my partner and I to go to the LDS church and it counted as a "different" religion. but like they wouldn't allow Episcopalian, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist work for the assignment.

so I just wonder if it has something to do with the Book of Mormon? I went to the church service. it really wasn't any different than my own.
