Resolutions vs. Promises

Resolution by definition is:
to come to a definite or earnest decision about; determine (to do something): I have resolved that I shall live to the full.

Another definition is:  to separate into constituent or elementary parts; break up; cause or disintegrate to separate into constituent or elementary parts; break up; cause or disintegrate.
It's the second one that I love.  "Break up or disintegrate." It was during the Review Extravaganza where I read a fellow bloggers post about "promises" she made.  She decided resolutions were not the way to go.  So she went with promises instead.

Promise:
a declaration that something will or will not be done, given, etc., by one: unkept political promises.

She managed to keep most if not all of her promises.  I was most impressed by this.  And then I was impressed by the thought of promising to do something.  My mother raised me that a promise is a promise.  If you are not able to do it, don't promise.  I have done the same with my own kids.  They know if I can't promise I won't.  So this year, I am not resolving anything.  Instead I am promising.

1.  I promise to move more
2.  I promise to improve my good eating habits
3.  I promise to lose weight gained
4.  I promise to be a better money manager
5.  I promise to be more creative(pinterest here I come!)

What are you going to promise yourself this year?

Hey, that's true, huh? I never thought of that. I like this "promise" thing. The only thing I promise is that I can't promise anything. HAHAHAA! I crack me up.

That is good! Is that your word for the year? Promise

I like it because it is kind of like making a covenant with yourself to have integrity :-D
Very worthy goal!!

I view promises in the same light. There are too things which should never be broken. Hearts and promises.
What great promises you have made to yourself! I hope you enjoy your year of keeping those promises.

I really do like this idea of promising. When I read the first one I thought, why would they move? Maybe I should promise to move less ;)

Not sure what I promise yet- but definitely going to do this.

I have a weird thing about promises. I can not, absolutely can not and will not break one. Ever.

But resolutions? I'll break one in 2 seconds flat without a lick of guilt. ;)
