I Just Can't Help It

No one sings it like her.

Last night my most beloved movie of all time was on.  I remember as I was growing up, The Wizard of Oz played every Easter.  And I watched and looked forward to it each and every year.  We didn't have DVD's, or VHS even til I was about 14.  And they didn't have marathons of the movie.  Who would do that?  I brought my trusty tape recorder to the speaker of the television and recorded the entire movie.  I knew exactly where the commercial breaks would be.  I know this movie from start to finish.  When it came on last night my child self came to the surface as I happily recited each line perfectly.  Yes, I know that movie from start to finish...

Dorothy:  She isn't coming yet Toto.  Did she hurt you?  Well she tried to.  Let's go tell Uncle Henry and Auntie Em.  Come on Toto!

I just couldn't help or even stop myself from saying and singing right along with all of them.  It's a fabulous movie for its time.  In fact, I think it was ahead of its time.  They spent two million six hundred thousand on it.  That's a lot of money for 1939.

There is another movie I can quote start to finish....

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house I had only two things on my mind:  Paul Newman and a ride home."

A bunch of bad boys...what's not to love!?

This one came when cable came into our house.  I remember scouring the guide to see when it would be playing.  I remember also tape recording this one.  Then a glorious thing happened.  We got our first VCR and you guessed it.  I recorded it on video tape.  I could watch it any time I wanted.  It was awesome.

"You wish to surrender to me?  Very well I accept."

The Princess Bride is filled with everything.  Including some of the best lines ever. I love this movie.  I know most of the dialogue.  It's been a while since I have seen it.  I am not sure how much I can quote.  But since I have it on Blu-Ray I would love to find out.

What movies do you love and enjoy?  Can you quote them verbatim?

Hmmm...movies I can quote would be stupid ones. Demolition Man and Dumb and Dumber come to mind.

I must have seen Steve McQueen in "Bullet" 200 times. I love when he tells his girlfriend "It's not for you Baby"... LOL!

Nacho Libre has become just one of the family in our house.

Funny thing: My son had to read The Outsiders for school so we Netflix'd the movie. I hadn't seen it in forever.

AHHH !!My six year old finally watched Wizard--and I wondered if he'd be as terrified of the monkeys as i was. But I guess special effects have come too far to spook him. ;-)

It has been forever since I've seen the Wizard of Oz, and I'm not exaggerating. And I've never seen the Princess Bride, although it is on Netflix and I have heard many good things about it, I just haven't ever gotten around to watching it yet.

I also looked forward to The Wizard of Oz when I was a child - Our kids have it too easy they don't have to wait for the good things in life.
Oh man Princess Bride is definately one of our family quotables, as is Napoleon Dynamite and for me also "Twilight" (don't be hatin'!).

PB is my all time favorite. I can quote that sucker without the movie in front of me, though I generally get told to stop. before I even get to the book part.

I can quote movies like I can quote songs. I think I know the words but I usually mess them up.

I was watching The Wizard of Oz too! And just about every one of my fb friends also - (they were posting sentences from it on fb)!!

I know practically every line to The Sound of Music - my favorite! I pretend to have an accent and all - it's kind of a mess!

Now here is the ultimate Wizard of Oz question: Have you seen the old version with the person hanging themself in the background (apparently)? I know the newer version had an ostrich or something wandering around back there. I have seen both. They are DEFINITELY different. And the old one is really creepy.

I can quote Dogma from start to finish. I used to do it during 12 mile humps (read: Marine hike) to keep my mind off the pain.
